Have you ever thought about your future, say 20 or 30 years from now? Would you like to live your retirement years in comfort & dignity?

Think about this —

Will you be one of the 2% that when you reach the age of 50 up, you’d be living a very comfortable life, that you will be independent?

Or will you be in the 45% of the population who are dependent on relatives?

Or will you be the in the 30% who are relying on charity?

Or will you be one of the 23% who doesn’t have a choice but still has to work even if your body tells you it can’t anymore?

Ever wonder why so many people delay saving for their old age? Some procrastinate. Some think they’re too young to even be thinking about it. Some say it’s too far ahead. Some have poor cash management. And still some just don’t know how to save. Sounds familiar?

Retirement is inevitable. Modern man will live longer because of medical breakthroughs.

What’s the solution?

The solution is to build a PASSIVE INCOME before retirement comes. How? Build it while you’re still earning your ACTIVE INCOME.

What’s your typical solution that does not usually work? Bank deposits. Why won’t it work? Because of low interest rates. It won’t get you far. Another reason is lack of discipline to go and make the regular deposits. And another reason is ease of withdrawal will always put you back at the starting line. BANKS are safe havens for your short to medium-term needs, but not for your retirement.

Think about this —

The heaviest burden that an old person can carry is an empty wallet or bank book.
No one wants to be poor in old age, but many just don’t make plans not to be.

This is our advocacy — to bring our dreams into fruition by acting today, firmly believing that small measures we take early, regularly and deliberately will build up and exceed more than the results we desire. It’s time!

Invest a little at a time, every time, starting now. It’s time!

As the the famous saying says, “Don’t Keep All Your Eggs in One Basket”, everyone has heard of at least once in their life.

Relying on just your day job may not be good at all, one day you may wake up and realize that your treasured job is gone, nada! You may lose your job for petty reasons or for just cause. You can lose your job just because your superior doesn’t like you or due to a recession. If your company does well, you could still lose your job due to mergers and acquisitions!

Who says your job is secure?

Are you afraid to fail? most people are afraid to start a business; why? they do not know where to start?, or it is easier to start looking for a job.

One day- I came across a woman loaning money from a friend; My friend told me that the old lady only relies on her pension;

Would you rather be a person who lives paycheck to paycheck or pension by pension? What will you do when the need arises to spend more? Working a job provides fixed income regardless of how hard of an effort you put into it.

By old age you should be simply travelling around having fun, at home playing with your pet, or busy in your garden full of blooming flowers; not wondering where to get your next meal.

Start a small business now. Do not put your eggs in one basket!

Every business no matter how small has to maintain records to know how healthy their business is. If you don’t know where your money came from and how you are spending it, then you don’t have a good understanding of your business. You as a business owner need to maintain business records so you know if you’re making or losing money. These records can help you understand your business better so you can change and adapt your business processes to earn more profit. Conversely, these records may be telling you that it’s time to shut it down or sell it. Maintaining these records is called “Bookkeeping”. This is how most businesses here in the Philippines account for their money. Other methods of maintaining these books are software programs or online web-based programs. I discussed some of these programs in a previous post Online Basics – Free online tools for a small business.

Three fundamental reports help you decide how your business is doing. Where it’s doing well and how to improve the business in certain areas. These reports will be your guide and keep a trend history of your financial failures and successes. Banks will need this information if you are trying to get a small business loan so they can decide how much capability you have in paying them back. These reports will also be required when selling your business because it allows you to put a value on your company and you will be able to project future financial earnings. Now that you understand why we need to account and report everything, here are the basic reports or statements.

1. Income Statement: This is referred to as the P&L or Profit and Loss statement. This report shows all the companies revenues and expenses incurred over a specific period of time. It shows the companies net profit or loss within that specified time. This statement tells an investor or bank exactly where the revenues and expenses came from. This is the most analyzed statement. To show the actual profit or loss of a company, the expenses are subtracted from the revenues to show the Net Income -Profit or the “Bottom Line”. These are analyzed quarterly and yearly.

2. Balance Sheet: This report is a snapshot of a companies assets, liabilities and shareholder’s equity as of a single date.

3. Cash Flow Statement: This report is an analysis of all Cash activities for a specified time period. These statements don’t describe the financial strength of a company. It shows the detail of income and expenses, where it came from and where it went. This will include operations, financing and investment cash flow.

As a business owner, you owe it to yourself and your company to learn how to keep good records. You need to know where your business came from and where it’s headed so that you can plan ahead and stay two steps ahead of the game. If you’re not willing to learn, then you need to hire a good accountant to manage your books and advise you of your financial situations. If you’re interested in learning more, you can start here. It’s a free downloadable PDF of Accounting Basics.

Running a small business these days requires you to communicate with people online. It’s simpler, faster and more cost effective to email a customer or partner than to send a letter. It’s also cheaper speak or chat with someone online then call them via the telephone. Sharing documents and collaborating online is a must these days. These are some advantages of using the internet for business. The hard part is choosing the right solutions that work best for you.

I recommend using online products that are simple and free. You don’t have to spend money to be organized online. All the basic tools I use are free or open source. Below is a list of basic online tools you will need to communicate and manage your business online and the products I recommend:

1. Email client: Thunderbird is a good free email client and is the best alternative to Microsoft Outlook, but it must be hosted on your local computer. It’s free to download and simple to use but not as robust as Outlook. I prefer an online client like Gmail because it’s web based and accessible from anywhere. It’s simple to use, has all the features of a paid email client plus an optional two step verification system for better security against hackers.

2. Office suite: Open office is probably the best free alternative to Microsoft Office. Please note that Microsoft Office is the best Office suite ever produced but you have to pay for it. I personally use Google Docs. All my documents are securely stored online and Google makes it easy for me to share any file to anyone with ease. I can even create a document and collaborate real time with a partner or client. Google also has a simple easy to use calendar and task manager.

3. Chat client with voice capability: The best and most used chat clients are Skype, Yahoo, MSN and Google’s Gtalk. I use all four of them because I have clients and partners that all use different messengers. I find Skype to be used more professionally and has more features than the others. They all offer decent voice and video quality as long as you have high speed internet and a good headset. For chatting I use imo. It’s a web based client that allows me to chat with anyone on Skype, Yahoo, MSN, Google at the same time in one application. That way I don’t have to have four separate programs running and I can access it anywhere.

4. Accounting software: GNU Cash is personal and small-business financial-accounting software, freely licensed under the GNU GPL and available for GNU/Linux, BSD, Solaris, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows. This is used by many small businesses that need a system they can use offline where internet is not available. If internet is available, the following web hosted applications all work well: SohoOS, Freshbooks, Wave accounting and Zoho invoice. I have used them all and they are all very similar. GNU Cash is the closest you will get to Quickbooks but it’s not as simple to use as its web based counterparts.

These are the basic online tools anyone needs to communicate online and manage a small business. If you’re just starting out or if you’re trying to get organized. I recommend using one platform for your email, calendar, tasks and office suite. I use Google’s suite of products because its simple and everything is in one place. I can easily manage my emails, open/edit documents, view my calendar and tasks and network with my peers all in one place. Microsoft and Zoho also have a good complete set of products. You just have to take some time to set everything up.

I’m a failure. Almost, every business I started has failed, yet I consider myself successful. That doesn’t sound right does it? For most people, failing is a frightening word and people will do everything in their power not to fail. It’s what we were taught not to do growing up. An “F” on your report card and you were grounded. Fail a test and you looked stupid. We grew up knowing that failure equals bad. We even teach our kids not to fail because if they do, it’s us that failed to educate them properly.

The word “Fail” should be replaced with the word “setback” because it’s a necessary footstep on the path to success. To remember that to fail is a temporary state, it depends on what you do from that point forward that will determine your future successes. The successful people I know became successful just shortly after a big failure. It’s trial and error. Sports athletes all learn how fall or fail properly because it happens to them on a regular basis. This is so they can be prepared for it when it happens to them. Body builders only grow muscle if they work specific muscles to failure. If they don’t, they won’t gain more strength or muscle mass. This is why failure is necessary in life and business. Failure is part of growing.

Failure leads you closer to success. This doesn’t mean you should go out and sabotage your business to fail. This means that wherever you have failed in your business, you gained knowledge and insight. Most people won’t even join the game because they don’t like taking risks for fear of failure. “If you’re not in the game, then you’re just watching people play the game”. These are the words from successful people like Donald Trump, Warren Buffet, Robert Kiyosaki and the list goes on because all successful people understand this.

I can’t remember how many times someone told me they were failing miserably at their business or job and didn’t know what to do. My usual response is “Quit your job if you don’t like it”. The usual reaction is fear of losing their job or business, but they eventually do quit. Failure is not the end, it’s usually the beginning. Every one of these people that took my advice was angry with me for a couple of months, but after 6 months or so were thanking me for giving them some encouragement to do what they were having such a hard time to do. They learned what it was that they did wrong previously and what to do right moving forward. They will fail again, like you and me. But they will learn and get better at it. Great innovations come from failure, imagine where we would be if the Wright Brothers never failed at flying. Colonel Sanders (KFC) at the age of 65 failed over 1000 times before he made any money on his chicken recipe. Thomas Edison invented the light bulb after 1000 failed attempts. Vincent Van Gogh only sold one painting in his lifetime and it was to a friend. Henry Ford failed in business five times before founding the Ford Motor Company. Bill Gates started Harvard but did not finish and yet Microsoft was born. Google as a company has had many failed products such as Google video player, Google wave and Google buzz just to name a few.

I wrote this post to give confidence to those people who have risked and failed. To help push them to keep trying and never quit. Failure is part of success, So I end this post with my own attempt at writing a quote. If I fail, I’ll write a better one tomorrow.

“To fail is a temporary state, it’s just the beginning of success” - Joeal Manimtim

Being an SME owner as well, I am happy to note that choosing the path of business and entrepreneurship has been one of the best decisions in my life.

Our economy, for the past few decades, has dictated that the path to success is as follows: study hard, get a degree, get employed at a prestigious office starting at the bottom, work hard to get promoted, retire and enjoy the benefits of your retirement package.

This formula has worked for several generations, and that is the reason why most of our parents and grandparents espouse this formula.

Sadly, this formula is no longer a guarantee to success.

With the new economy, and with the transfer of information getting faster than ever, your place in a traditional company is no longer secure. With so many people competing for a slot in the job market, once you get in, promotions also become hard to achieve.

The only true way to get yourself further in today’s economy, especially if you were not born rich, is to create increasing and lasting value that others will benefit from. This value you create from work is what the basis of your reward will be. It is true that you may be able to do this practice inside a traditional company. Still, in my opinion, the best platform to do this is through entrepreneurship.

By choosing this path, you let go of all the usual guarantees that employment offers, trading the said guarantees for the freedom of exploring your potential, developing this potential into a “product” that the market will appreciate, and generate income from this “product”.

By doing this, there are no set structures and no specific guidelines that one has to follow. Many people fear the idea of not working inside a structure or not being told what to do. People fear this formula because it calls for more responsibility, and when failure arises, there is no one to blame.

What people who need “structure” fail to realize, and what entrepreneurs have learned, is that the absence of structure creates an unlimited opportunity for growth in value, and consequently an unlimited opportunity to earn and make more than a just a living.

Entrepreneurship may be hard, but it is one of the best ways to explore your true potential.

Jobs co-founded Apple Computer in 1976 and, with his childhood friend Steve Wozniak, marketed what was considered the world’s first personal computer, the Apple II.

read a statement by Apple’s board of directors.

“Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve. His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.”

Jobs, the mastermind behind Apple’s iPhone, iPad, iPod, iMac and iTunes, was diagnosed with a rare form of pancreatic cancer in 2003, underwent a liver transplant in 2009, and stepped down as CEO of Apple on the 24th of August 2011, after years of degrading health.

The death of the tech icon gathered reactions from people including Fortune 500 company CEOs, celebrities, politicians, fellow tech-savvy experts and Apple lovers to offer their condolences and praises of Jobs’ life accomplishments.

The homepage of Apple’s website this evening switched to a full-page image of Jobs with the text, “Steve Jobs 1955-2011.”

Clicking on the image revealed the additional text:

“Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.”

One of the best things you can do when beginning an Internet business is to ensure that you get the best domain name possible. If you’re unaware, the domain name for a site is what you’ll be typing into your browser when you want to go to that site. Should you be starting an online business and you need a website picking the domain that will match the niche you are entering is imperative. You may not realize it but the correct domain name can impact the volume of success you have.

The first thing you have to know is that there are many different extensions with regard to domain names. The actual extensions are the letters that come immediately after the actual domain name like .com, .net, .info and so on. What you are going to realize would be that the .com extension is the extension that most individuals want because it seems more professional. You are most likely one of the men and women who normally just automatically key in .com after the site name that you enter. When you own weightloss.net and an individual wants to go to your website, they will probably end up typing in weightloss.com and they’re going to be going to an alternative website that is not yours. This means that one of the most essential things when choosing a domain name is ensuring you get a .com.

You now can begin thinking about the actual domain name that you are going to select for your Internet site. Let’s just say you’re selling widgets, you will not want a domain name like find-the-cheapest-widgets-online.com, this is something that no one is going to want to type into their Internet browser. So attempt to choose something that is snappy and also short like cheapwidgets.com. A shorter domain such as this is something that most folks will have no problem recalling. This can be one of the biggest reasons for you to try to locate a very short domain name.

You also want to make certain you target your niche to the domain name you pick. What this means is that when you’re going to become involved in widgets the domain name that you pick out should at least have the word widget within it. Something else you should additionally do is to make certain you do a little keyword research and see if there are men and women doing searches for a term like “cheap widgets”. When you find out if this is a search phrase that a lot of individuals are looking for you will then try to get a domain like “cheapwidgets.com” or perhaps “buycheapwidgets.com” The particular reasoning behind this is to try to get better positioning in the search engines for that search term.

Additionally never use a domain name simply because it sounds cool. If you think about that for a minute, if you are advertising and promoting widgets, a domain name such as redrockcanyon.com won’t be a good domain name. For this reason it is vital that you match your domain name to your niche.

These are just a number of the reasons why choosing the best domain name can end up helping your Internet business. And if you wind up picking a bad domain name for your niche you may find it more difficult to get the targeted prospects from the search engines.

As you probably know, the favorite article template of thousands of web marketers is instant article factory.

The Internet is filled with articles with tips on the things you need to do if you would like to pull in more money on the Internet. You won’t come across as many articles that tell you what you should NOT do if you want to raise your potential for earning on the internet. The reality is that it is just as vital to learn what things you should avoid doing as to learn what things you should be trying like crazy to do. Learning from others’ errors can save you all sorts of time and energy. Continue reading to find out what you should not do.

Do not let yourself get caught up with greed and lust. You can expect to see all types of affiliate offers promoted on sites that show off photographs of luxury cars, mansions and stunning people claiming that they made billions of dollars almost overnight using the exact same software that they are trying to sell to you. Try to keep your head about you and do a bit of research before clicking the “buy” button. You would do some research into any merchandise being so blatantly pushed at you offline. See to it that you apply this level-headedness on the internet also.

Do not try to accomplish a lot too quickly. Get going with something modest to test the waters. These smaller opportunities are important while you determine what to do to help yourself and what to do that will hurt you. To illustrate, begin with a single affiliate product that you are confident you can sell. Don’t try to make your own product or set up your own affiliate program when you get started. Put up a blog of your own before you get started with your own subscription based online publication. This will allow you time to truly get a taste for something before committing yourself totally and then finding out that you dislike the field you’ve selected.

Procrastination and slacking opportunities are everywhere when you work from home. Avoid giving in to the tendency to procrastinate! If you think better while sitting on your couch with your laptop and the TV on in the background, that’s alright. But if you observe that you’re actually simply watching TV shows and not working, you’re going to have troubles. You need to set up actual space in your house and dedicate a specific amount of time to work inside of that space just like you would if you had a normal day job. Don’t let normal weekend activities take up time during the week or get in the way of your doing what you need to do to build your business. This is truly hard when you first start but if you keep on working at it, you can train your body (and brain) to ignore all of those distractions that go on when you work from home.

There are all sorts of mistakes that individuals who are new to online marketing make. These are just a few of the biggest and most common. Learn from the errors that other IMers have made and let what you have learned to get ahead of the other new people with whom you are competing. Keep in mind that you need to take advantage of every step up that comes your way!

An important piece of my content production is an article template. This also applies to a professional article rewriter.
