There are TOO Many MLM Companies and not Enough Distributors

MLM has produced a full time income for many enterprising entrepreneurs. There are millions of distributors using this method to build an income. The marketplace has profoundly changed since companies like Amway or Shaklee first started operating.

Beginning in the 1980’s with the use of the Computer, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of MLM startups. This was a godsend for the MLM distributor, since this created an extra opportunity for the MLMer to make a residual income. Recently however the proliferation of companies has hurt the MLM distributor.

Having more MLM Companies available may seem at first to increase the ability of the average distributor to earn a residual income. The opposite has happened. Since the MLMer must compete for the same number of MLM distributors available in the marketplace, the competition is fierce to recruit, notwithsatnding the confusing number of options available to the average MLMer.

The number of MLM company startups has increased at such an exponential rate, I wonder how any MLM company can recruit enough distributors to survive. What this does is create sales and marketing challenges the average distributor may be unable to overcome. It certainly means that the marketing endeavors of the average MLMer must change.

The new level of competition will require that the MLM distributor go outside the available pool of distributors to recruit a sales force. This will expand the distributor base and allow the MLMer to recruit to a wider audience. More training will be needed to bring the new “outsider” up to speed. This takes a lot of time but will result in a very important aspect of MLM which builds relationships

“Relationship Building” is what MLM used to be all about. When you think about it, this concept alone created the security needed for a secure residual income. Today we hide behind a website, never interacting with our prospects. Building relationships is the core concept behind MLM.

Survival of the new MLM distributor will depend upon the system used to recruit for him or her. If the newbie has access to leads, autoresponders etc and can profit from them by adding additional income streams, they can more easily overcome those difficult first couple of months in business. Any tactic that can help your new distributor prosper, will increase your chance of success.

MLM is probably one of the easiest businesses to start. If you treat it like a hobby you will fail. Treat it like the business it is and the potential it has; you will be successful.
